Mary Florence Sullivan, LMSW

(She/Her)

I practice therapy with warmth, empathy, creativity, and compassion and use trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches in my work. I believe every person has the capacity for growth and healing and try to incorporate art, storytelling, and mindfulness techniques into my practice.

I work from an anti-oppressive, social justice lens, and aim to collaboratively create a trusting, safe and supportive therapeutic relationship and partnership through our work together.

I have experience in trauma-informed therapy as well as supporting adults and adolescents experiencing anxiety, seeking guidance in managing relationships and identifying how life experiences form current belief systems and patterns of thinking. I have extensive experience working with survivors of trauma and gender-based violence.

I graduated from Columbia University’s School of Social Work in 2016 with my MSW. I then joined the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence and directed an innovative program to support survivors of intimate partner violence throughout the city.

Also in my social work practice, I have supported unaccompanied migrant youth in New York City on an interdisciplinary team of social workers and immigration lawyers and worked abroad throughout Latin America. I was a psychotherapist for people with intellectual disabilities and their families, where I used CBT to navigate individuals’ experiences of anxiety and depression. Most recently, I’ve worked in Student Support Services with master’s level social work students, where my colleagues and I collectively foster a supportive environment that incorporates equity, inclusion and belonging.

I am currently a doctoral candidate in social work at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College. My research focuses on how social workers can better support unaccompanied immigrant youth in the United States.
