Dr. Elena Man, M.D.

(she/her)

I am a pediatrician who learned how to be a better doctor for kids and families by way of experiencing parenthood. What started as a desire to better care for the mental health needs of my patients became my passion so I came to Brooklyn after two decades of caring for youth as a general pediatrician in a rural Pennsylvania community to specifically focus on supporting youth facing mental health challenges. Over the years, I have pursued additional training to learn the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), hypnotherapy, and evidence based management of common pediatric mental health concerns. This background along with dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) now allows me to share a breadth of perspective and options for addressing concerns. Above all, my priority is to support each individual’s well being. It is my privilege to be trusted as a member of a child, teen, or young adult’s team of care, and my interest is to achieve the goals meaningful to each individual while supporting self confidence, skills, and empowerment for navigating what life brings.

My assessment includes consideration of age/developmental level, needs of both mind and body, and the influence of schedule, lifestyle, and activities on well being. I prioritize coping skills and healthy habits to address concerns and include counseling and/or medications when indicated. I additionally enjoy working as a team with therapists to provide psychopharmacology management for ADHD, anxiety, and depression.

About my own identity and family: I’m cis, white, Jewish, and use she/her pronouns. I’m married to a Chinese American cis man. We are the parents of two young adults: the oldest is cisgender female (she/her), a dancer, coder, and in graduate school for digital art/design. The youngest(he/him) is trans, genderqueer, Deaf and a visual / media artist and actor. My biggest prize in life is being the Mom of these two who are also my favorite people :). My additional honor is to serve youth and families seeking care at MindBody7. My goal is to provide support that is meaningful and makes a positive difference for you. My intention is to provide care that is consistently respectful, without judgement, and welcoming.

My training/experience includes the following: University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude, BA in Biology (undergraduate), Teacher at The Dalton School, Harvard Medical School, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (pediatric residency), General pediatrician in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for over 20 years, Board Certified Pediatrician, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics licensed in Pa and NY , Course Master, Faculty and Steering Committee Member of The REACH Institute for Trainings: Patient Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care, And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Pediatric Primary Care.
