Dr. Christy Duan, MD

Dr. Duan is board certified in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She graduated with a degree in statistics from the University of Michigan in 2012, and earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2016. She was the child and adolescent psychiatry chief fellow at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and completed her adult psychiatry training with specialization in perinatal psychiatry at the same institution. Dr. Duan is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and board eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Duan approaches the art and science of psychiatry from a stance of reverence and curiosity. She develops a nuanced, holistic perspective by using the biopsychosocial model to deeply understand the individual and their environment. Dr. Duan uses psychotherapy and medication management as modalities in this exciting, collaborative process of discovery and healing.

Dr. Duan is passionate about social justice and addressing the needs of underserved populations. This includes LGBTQIA+, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), those in alternative relationships, and much more.

In addition to working in various clinical settings and levels of care, Dr. Duan has experience with psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), family therapy, and group therapy. She received training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Mentalization-Based Treatment for Children (MBT-C) through the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders through Postpartum Support International, and MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD through the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.

Dr. Duan has authored multiple academic publications and presented at many national conferences. She currently serves on the New York Council for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry's Consumer Issues Committee. She is also an award winning writer who has spent time on the ABC News Medical Unit and spoken at New York Comic Con about pop culture and mental health. Dr. Duan, along with Kathleen Fentress Tripp, PMHNP-BC and Dr. Beata Lewis, MD, co-authored Managing ADHD Workbook for Women: Exercises and Strategies to Improve Focus, Motivation, and Confidence.
